Rubber Tree
Botanical Name: Ficus Elastica
Light:
Bright with no direct sun. You can tell if your rubber plant needs more light if it becomes leggy, leaves begin to lose their luster or fall off.
Water Requirement:
Varies by season. During the dormant season, your plant may only need water once or twice a month.
Fertilizer:
Feed during the Spring and Summer while actively growing with a liquid fertilizer.
Growth Habit:
Rubber trees can grow to impressive heights within a few years (6’-10’). Especially if you pot them outside during the summer. Keeping them in small pots will restrict their growth, if you want to keep them smaller.
Noteworthy Characteristics:
Rubber plants earned their name thanks to their sap, which is sometimes used to make rubber. The rubber plant’s leaves also have a nice shiny, rubbery appearance.
Pro Tips:
Clean the leaves gently with tepid water and you will enjoy the glossy, clean, dust-free look. Use a very soft cloth or sponge.
This species is quite easy to care for and can grow well in low light. The biggest mistake is over-watering or moving plant too frequently.
Avoid sudden temperature drops and drafty area.
